Matthew J. Mosca - Historic Paint Finishes Consultant

As a private consultant since 1979, Matthew J. Mosca has conducted many major historic paint research studies.  Several projects have won awards for excellence over the years, and some where the technology of the eighteenth century was replicated as accurately as possible, have been considered landmarks in the evolution of the field.

Some of Mr. Mosca's most significant projects include:

  • Mount Vernon, home of George Washington (1735, 1759-1799)
  • The Octagon (1800)  Washington, D.C.
  • George Read II House (c. 1806) New Castle, Delaware
  • Arlington House (1805-1818) Arlington, Virginia
  • The Warner Theater (1924) Washington, D.C.
  • First Methodist Church, (1884)  Baltimore, Maryland
  • Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home, (1819-1835) near Nashville, Tennessee
  • James F.D. Lanier Mansion, (1844) Madison, Indiana
  • The Powel House (c. 1765) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • United States Treasury Building, Washington, D.C.
LLMC Chapel project

The project at Mount Vernon, perhaps the most significant, resulted in the complete restoration of the interior finishes of George Washington's home.  All of the finishes were handmade and applied with brushes made according to eighteenth-century standards.
